Carpathian Mountains, 1896 (continued)

Updated: Jul 2

This is a spectacular black-and-white photograph that I took in May 2023, of the Carpathian Mountains (well, actually these are mountains in southeast Tennessee; because I cannot travel to the Carpathian Mountains, I am "pretending" that these Tennessee mountains are the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine in the year 1896, and the black-and-white photography recreates the 1890s time period very well). My great-grandfather was a Jewish man who came from the Carpathian Mountains of southwestern Ukraine, and he was living in these mountains in the year 1896. I am fascinated by the physics involved with these mountains, including the tiny atoms deep within the sandstone rocks that make up these mountains.

Also, I think a lot about the fact that these mountains are located on the European continent, and I do not think very much about what countries these mountains are located in. I love continents, and I love the physics involved with how continents and continental crust are formed, and I love the physics involved with how mountains are formed!!
